ENT FREMD SEIN

ENT (taking out / away) FREMD (strange) SEIN (Being / Existence) is the work I developed in the time of my asylum process. It shows the act of alienation trying to become familiar. The boxes contain a layer of polarised film and images that were taken by digital scanner through camera obscura.

The camera obscura by Ibn al-Haytham was first explained how human vision works, The initial thought of the scanner was to make a machine that look at pictures and understands them? In these three images a scanner translated me from story to a code. It doesn’t look, it reads line by line, absorbing shadow and converting them into something that can be stored and misunderstood.

These polarised films filter the light so that only vibrations in a certain direction pass through, and sunglasses create hidden text visible. It fragments and controls the vision to see the hidden story, the system turned into data.
