Chya Jamal Mohammed (born and raised in North Kurdistan, lives and works in Germany) began his artistic path as a musician. He studied Classical Guitar Performance in North Kurdistan, later completing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Spain at the University of Alicante.

Alongside his musical practice, he began creating conceptual and public art interventions that addressed political issues within his city and university environment. After relocating to Germany as a refugee in 2022, he continued his studies at the Bauhaus University Weimar in the program Public Art and New Artistic Strategies.

Working across video, images, installation, and participatory forms, Chya’s practice explores refuge, belonging, alienation, and displacement grounded in memory and the tension between visibility and erasure. His works reflect on the fragile state of existing and not existing at the same time, questioning how presence can persist in spaces that constantly shift between recognition and disappearance.
